St Mary's Food Bank 2010
An amazing year with tremendous support from our volunteers, community members, schools, and corporations. Over this past year, St. Mary's Food Bank went through different developments and gained the support of many while tryin to meet the challenge of the increasing numbers of the food bank users,.
Part of our continuous attempt to outreach and serve more people in need for food, St. Mary’s Food Bank expanded to a second location; 1699 Dundas Street East, in addition to our existing location at 5715 Coopers Avenue, in Mississauga. Starting July 2010 we started to 10 postal codes instead of only six. As a result, the number of people we serve increased from 12000 to over 27000 per year.
Through the homelessness partnership strategy, funded by Ontario Services in partnership with the Region of Peel, St. Mary’s Food Bank received partial financial support to launch one of the largest community kitchen programs in Mississauga. This program is intending to serve about 3000 meals every year through our location at Dundas street. Parallel to this initiative and under the same program, St. Mary’s Food Bank soon will launch the first Food Bank Home delivery to those who are home bound with no access to the food bank.
All came true with the high commitment and dedication of our volunteers, and the support of many organizations; including The Region of Peel, The Ontario Trillium Foundation, The Community Foundation of Mississauga, RBC Foundation, In addition to many corporate sponsors.
Corporate Partners
Staples Advantage
A true corporate partner, Staples Advantage in Mississauga has been supporting St. Mary's Food Bank since 2009. In 2010, while we are struggling to meet our target date to open our second location at Dundas street, Staples Advantage has offered to donate several furniture items to furnish this new location. In addition, they have collected and donated a large amount of office supplies that are needed for the food bank daily use.
Staples Advantage never stopped suprising us with their generosity and true initiative to support the hungry family and children in our community through St. Mary's Food Bank. this year nine of Staples advantage's top management from throughout Ontario have decided to volunteer at St. Mary's Food Bank. With true compassion those volunteers spent their volunteer time sorting food, re-packaging food, organizing the storage area, checking expiry dates, and cleaning the warehouse.
Employees of Staples Advantage, not only they volunteer their time every year with St. Mary's Food Bank, they run money drives and food drives to directly support the people we serve.
Thank you Staples Advantage
